The Gender Equality Society socials were a great success this week. It was really inspiring to see so many young people interested in and concerned by gender related issues and to see such a range of people too. We welcomed undergraduates and postgraduates, home students, international students, female students, male students, social sciences students, humanities students, languages students, science students to name but a few! The society is always happy to greet new members at any point in the year - it's never too late to join!
In the pipeline for the society this year:
- trips to conferences in the UK and abroad
- speaker events
- campaigns
- 'Reclaim the Night' march
- weekly discussions
- social events
...and much much more.
As soon as the specifics are all decided, details of all events will be up on here so watch this space!

Getting ready for Exeter University Welcome Week
All those concerned with gender equality at Exeter University are getting ready for new academic year. New first year students have started arriving and we are all keen to help spread the word during Welcome Week (Saturday 24th Spetember - Sunday 2nd October).
The Gender Equality Society, whose president is Lindsay Lyon, has two social events during welcome week which are open to all students:
Monday 26th September, 7pm until late. "Meet the Feminists". Meet at the entrance to Stocker Road. Come along to meet the Gender Equality Society committee - a friendly mix of young women and men all keen to campaign on issues concerning gender, and to see how you can get involved.
Wednesday 28th September, 7:30pm-9pm. Meet at Cafe Ritazza, Cornwall House. "Your Feminist Manifesta". Come along to discuss some hot topics on gender and get across your point of view whatever it may be!
If you cannot make it to either event, fear not! You can meet the team and join the society at the Activities Fair on Sunday 2nd October, 10am - 4pm. You will find them in the Lower Exam Hall along with the other campaign societies. And if you can't make that as well, fear not! You can sign up online to join the society. Just go to the Exeter Students' Guild website: www.exeterguild.org/societies and find the Gender Equality society under the 'CAMPAIGNS' category.
If you would like to meet me, please come along and find me in the Great Hall at the Activities Fair on Sunday 2nd October. You can also meet other representatives from various groups such at LGBTQ, international students and Racial Equality.
This is just the start of what will be a very eventful, productive and happy year for working towards eliminating gender inequality.
